Bitter pill

Politicians know well whom they have to keep happy and when. When a Bill was being passed to oust Dr P Venugopal as director of AIIMS, various doctors backing Venugopal tried to reach the PM. However, the PM did not intervene and let Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss have his way. Later, the Supreme Court reinstated Venugopal in his post. The veteran cardiologist finally retired on July 2. It was then that the PM remembered the rough treatment Venugopal had got at his minister8217;s hand and so felicitated the doctor at his official residence. While various doctors and ministers were invited to the event, there was one conspicuous name missing from the list of invitees: Anbumani Ramadoss.
