CHANDIGARH, July 27: The quot;non-official visitorsquot; to Model Jail, Burail, today criticised Congress leader Maninderjit Singh Bitta8217;s statement demanding jail superintendent R.D. Sharma8217;s suspension.
Terming the allegations as baseless, Karam Singh Raju, a retired IAS officer, said the charges were not based on documentary evidence. He added that Bitta should have verified the facts before issuing a statement.
In another press release, retired Inspector General of Police K.C. Shermar said the conspiracy to blow up a portion of the jail was unearthed due to the vigilant jail staff. Giving details of non-official visitors NOV and judicial officers coming to the jail, he said that complaints were never received against the superintendent.
Senior Congress leader Daulat Ram Sharma, while appreciating the jail administration, said that nothing incriminating was recovered from the jail premises despite repeated search by the police officials.
Urging the Administration to condemn Bitta8217;s statement, Joginder Singh Bhogal said that such demands had a demoralising effect on the jail staff.
Claiming to have been visiting the jail regularly, Gurpratap Singh Riar said that he had always found the conditions to be congenial.
