
A national facility of bird flu H5N1 testing was inaugurated at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on Thursday. This is only the second such facility in India. It will be helpful in diagnosing and controlling bird flu at an early stage. Beside avian flu, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B 038; C, Cytomegalovirus, Human Papilloma virus, Tuberculosis and Chlamydia will also be diagnosed and monitored at the facility. Dr Sarman Singh, head, Division of Clinical Microbiology, Department of Laboratory Medicine, will look after this facility.
