A Sessions court in Dahod on Monday adjourned to May 15, hearing of the bail plea of 16 accused in the Bilkis case, even as defence counsel for the doctor couple charge-sheeted by CBI, argued the couple followed the norms for the post-mortems.

Making his submission before Sessions Judge V.B. Mayani, Advocate Jayendra Dixit, counsel for the accused doctors Sangeeta and A.K. Prasad, said the two carried out post-mortems after receiving an inquest report from the police. He denied the doctors had entered into a conspiracy with the other accused as alleged by CBI and tried to tamper with evidence. He arguing that witnesses too had stated that the doctors had conducted the post-mortems on the spot as per norms.

CBI counsel submitted an application seeking adjournments on grounds that the agency did not have the original papers pertaining to the case. Apart from the doctors, two policemen, Narpatsinh Patel, I.A. Sayeed and 12 others had applied for bail.
