NO wailing wolves or screeching cats. Yet this one’s a scream. Ramgopal Varma’s horror flick Bhoot has a pacy soundtrack to boot. Unlike Raaz which was packed with romantic hits, Bhoot relies on its haunting (literally) numbers, which is refreshing.

As for the two versions of the title track Bhoot Hoon Main set to score by Salim and Sulaiman, one is better than the other. Sunidhi Chauhan’s voice rises upto the mark and don’t be surprised if you hear the remix on the ramp, with models in pale make up, flaunting gossamer creations. But the biggest surprise is the slow-paced Bhoot Hai Yahan Koi sung by Asha Bhosle who reinvents her vocal verve ever so often. The lyrics centre on a ghost that’s alive and awake — now if that’s not spooky then what is?

Music duo Bapi-Tutul use percussion to raise the chill levels in Din Hai Na Ye Raat and Usha Uthup, who’s disappeared from the film scene, is brilliant. Ghor Andhere offers an adrenalin induced farrago of flute, chants and even a chorus that sounds like a church choir.

This is probably the first time that six music directors and five lyricists have worked on a horror flick. Buy it.
