HISAR, Nov 25: Judicial Magistrate Amarjit Singh today acquitted former chief minister Bhajan Lal in a case relating to recovery of foreign-made liquor bottles at his Adampur residence in December 1996.

However, the court awarded six months8217; imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 to Shiv Dayal, a munim of Bhajan Lal, in the case.

Earlier, a Central Bureau of Investigation CBI team had raided the Adampur residence of Bhajan Lal last year in connection with the JMM bribery case, which had led to the recovery of liquor.

Shiv Dayal deposed in the court that the whisky belonged to him and the former chief minister had nothing to do with it.

The employee, however, during the raid had told the CBI team that the keys of the almirah, from where the whisky was recovered, were with Bhajan Lal, as it was his personal almirah.
