
NEW DELHI, MARCH 12: With the arrest of a member of the Bawaria tribe, the Crime Branch claimed to have solved dacoity cases dating back to 1984. With the increasing number of dacoities in the Capital and Gurgaon, a special team was constituted to end the menace. Yesterday the police managed to arrest Shiv Singh alias Kawal 45 8212; a resident of Likhi village in Faridabad 8212; at Roshanara Road.
Singh allegedly disclosed that in January he and his associates 8212; Shera, Dahiya, Maggar, Mohinder Babu, Bhura, Kalu, Subhash and Ombir 8212; armed themselves with country-made pistols and iron rods and looted a house in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. When a police party reached the spot, the Bawarias allegedly opened fire at them. However, the police managed to nab Ram Parsad, even as the others made a quick getaway.
According to the police, the next day the same gang struck again. This time they robbed cash and jewelry worth Rs 6,000 from the home of one Ravinder Singh in Sunehri Nagar, Etah.
Singh allegedly told the police that in 1987, he and his associates looted houses in Pehwa and Shahbad Markanda in the Kurukshetra district of Haryana. Police records revealed that Singh has been declared a proclaimed offender in several cases by the courts.
Singh has been accused of being involved in robbery and dacoity cases in Churu and Bharatpur in Rajasthan in 1984 and 1989. The police also claim his involvement in more dacoity cases and truck robbery cases in Yamuna Nagar and Rewari in Haryana and Mathura and Kasganj in UP.
According to the police, Shera and Dahiya would drive the rest of the gang in trucks to the place that had been targetted for a dacoity.
