Mumbai, February 5: Burglars broke into a flat at Bandra and escaped with jewellery worth Rs 2.15 lakh early on Friday.

Mustafa Burmawalla woke up at 5 am only to find that jewellery missing from the cupboard, which was left unlocked. He had gone to sleep at around 11.30 last night.

Investigations have revealed that the burglars broke into the flat in Prem Ghat building on 28th road at Bandra W through the kitchen window. Apparently, they had removed the glass from the frame, the police added.

In another incident barely a kilometere away, two men had stole into a ground floor office in Zaveri Kunj building on 16th Road, Khar at around 5 am on Tuesday.

The commotion woke up a neighbour A R Kondive who informed the owner Sajid Galani on phone. Galani immediately contacted the police who rushed to the spot. The office had electronic equipment and garments inside.

A trap was laid with a constable positioned at the rearside access road. Sensing trouble, the two robbers made a last ditch effort toescape from behind but faced the policeman on guard. When asked to surrender, the duo instead fired two rounds at the policeman before escaping under the cover of darkness after scaling boundary walls of three adjoining buildings.

The constable Uday Bhowad retaliated by firing seven rounds from his rifle but failed to stop the culprits who left behind a trail of blood.
