Bali gangster arrested in raid

According to the police, Bhowmik and his associates had been eluding them for quite sometime. 8220;Bhowmik is the most important member of the Bali-based Ramesh Mahato gang. He was wanted in several cases of murder and extortion,8221; an officer of the Bali police station said.

Bhowmik is also the prime suspect in the murder of Bijoy Dutta, brother of a local Trinamool leader. Dutta was shot from a close range about a year ago. The police suspect the murder was done for political gains and Bhowmik was hired to eliminate Dutta. Bhowmik8217;s associates Gourab Bhattacharya and Shiba Das were also allegedly involved in the murder.

8220;Bhowmik heads the extortion racket of the Mahato gang,8221; said a police officer. 8220;His main targets are builders, promoters and small-time businessmen of the Bali area,8221; he added. The arrested were produced in court on Sunday. While Bhowmik was remanded in police custody, his associates were sent to jail.
