
CHANDIGARH, July 13: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has set up a high-level committee headed by Dr. Khem Singh Gill, a former vice-chancellor of the Punjab Agriculture University, to suggest ways and means for rationalising fee structure in private colleges in the state and to study other related aspects.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting called by the Chief Minister on representations submitted by different students associations demanding reduction in exorbitant fee being charged by some private colleges managements in Punjab.
The committee would also suggest measures to streamline the system of paying salaries to teaching and other staff of private colleges by the managements. The committee would consist of vice chancellors of universities in the state, distinguished figures from education field as members with education secretary colleges as member-secretary. The committee would submit its report within three months for consideration by the state government. Badal also directed the education department to set up a similar committee for regulating fee structures in private schools in the state.
