Bad roads and poor street lighting could have led to the death of seven-year-old Mohammad Shad in Tandalja on Saturday evening, police said on Sunday. Deputy Commissioner of Police South, B K Shrimali, echoed with the residents, who on Sunday said that more accidents will happen if the roads and street lighting in the area are not improved.

Shrimali said that he is planning to write to the Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC, asking the body to improve the civic amenities in the area.

8220;The truck driver did not see the boy because he was trying to save the vehicle from the potholes. Although the people who gathered at the spot after the accident should not have reacted that way, they have been facing these problems for the last many years,8221; he said.

The police are now planning to write a complaint to the VMC for neglecting the civic issues in the area.

8220;Our policemen also face difficulty in manning the area due to poor lighting and bad roads. Therefore, in a written appeal to the VMC mayor, we will cite all these problems for the safety of the residents in the area.

Adbul Zariwalla, who has a small grocery shop near the Sahil complex in Tandalja where the accident took place, said that only two street lights in the area function.

8220;The truck driver should have been careful. But personally, I will not blame the him. It is VMC8217;s duty to build better roads and put more lights. The people who have visited the accident site should come at night. The cause of the accident will be clear then,8221; said Zariwalla.
