Support came for Amitabh Bachchan from an unexpected quarter today, with the BJP seeking to know why only one family was at the receiving end of the Income Tax department8217;s actions.
Senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu said vendetta was obvious in the actions against the Bachchans. 8216;8216;We don8217;t approve of what SP members have done at Allahabad the attack on income tax office today, but we understand it has not been done at the instance of Amitabh,8217;8217; he said. Prior to the latest notice over sunglasses allegedly worth Rs 2.7 crore, the I-T department had served the actor with a notice while he was in ICU, Naidu added.
Jaya was disqualified from the Rajya Sabha for holding an office of profit on the basis of a complaint filed by a Congress leader. The move later boomeranged and the government had to bring a legislation to bail out over 40 MPs. Naidu said the Congress was prepared to shield everyone but Jaya against disqualification. The rescue move too came only after she lost her membership.
Sources in the BJP denied having been approached by the Bachchans for help but said they were backing him because the I-T notice reflected on the Congress and Sonia Gandhi.
