Australian killed in Goa, three held

A 65-year-old Australian national was allegedly killed on Wednesday at Calangute8217;s beach bar, 10 km from here, police said. Calangute police have detained three persons for assaulting John Kallie, DSP Gundu Naik said. 8220;He died 10 hours after the assault, while being treated at Goa Medical College and Hospital here,8221; Naik said. Police have detained two waiters and a security guard of the bar for their alleged involvement in assaulting him.

Naik said that the incident took place when Kallie was in the bar. 8220;He entered into an argument with the waiter which resulted in the altercation. The deceased was pushed down and assaulted in the bar,8221; he said. SP Bosco George said the case was being investigated and no comments could be made at the moment. 8220;We have detained three people. There is no formal arrest till now,8221; he added.
