Australian honour for Sorabjee

The Australian Government has conferred one of its most prestigious titles, Order of Australia, on former Attorney General of India Soli J. Sorabjee.

The Australian Government has conferred one of its most prestigious titles, Order of Australia, on former Attorney General of India Soli J. Sorabjee.

The award is in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of close links between India and Australia in the legal field.

On a visit to Australia in 2000, Sorabjee was an early advocate of the benefits for both India and Australia in using more of each other8217;s superior court judgments for guidance in cases involving similar areas of law.

Conferring the award, the Australian government also reminisced how Sorabjee8217;s direct involvement paved way for the success of a recent mission to India led by that country8217;s Solicitor General.
