More than 41 per cent of the electorate exercised their franchise in Udhampur while in Ladakh, the turnout was almost 60 per cent despite poll eve attacks.

8216;8216;The poll process in the fourth phase for two constituencies was overall peaceful and free and fair election was conducted,8217;8217; state Chief Secretary S.S. Bloeria said.

But for minor skirmishes, polling was peaceful in the state. 8216;8216;There were only four small incidents while a vehicle was also seized and 13 people were arrested at Pancheri which were not voters of that area,8217;8217; DGP Gopal Sharma said. An argument between BJP candidate Chaman Lal Gupta and Congress candidate Lal Singh at polling booth no 57-A at Kathua sparked a clash between party workers.

A BSP inspector and a civilian were injured when militants opened fire and lobbed grenades at three polling stations in Doda and Udhampur districts during elections to Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency here today. Another blast was reported outside a booth at Bhaderwah.

A lesser-known outfit Alarseen has claimed responsibility for attacks on polling booths in Doda in Udhampur. A spokesman called up a news agency and said the outfit had carried out the attacks. Meanwhile, the Hizbul Mujahideen has also owned up responsibility. Security agencies say no outfit called Alarseen is operating in the region.
