VADODARA, Feb 16: The People8217;s Union of Civil Liberties has alleged that members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and higher castes were involved in the alleged roughing up of workers of Parivartan, a non-governmental organisation, on February 11 at Padra.

PUCL members, led by union State president Tulsi Boda, Kirit Bhatt, Vasantbhai Parmar, Dhirubhai Mistry and Jagdeesh Patel visited Padra after the altercation. They said in a press note that the accused had tried to give the incident a 8220;communal colour8221; by lodging a counter-complaint with the police.

According to the PUCL activists, there was not even a single Christian in the Dalit uplift movement, which was being carried out by Parivartan workers in Padra and adjoining areas.
