PUNE, APRIL 16: Crime Branch sleuths have begun probing the suspected involvement of the gang led by underworld don Arun Gawli in the recent attack on a cable network owner and his friend near Empress Garden.Ramdas Tarachand Hiranwar (47) and Balu alias Somnath Shankar Sadavarte (20) - they are residents of Somwar Peth - were arrested on Friday by the Wanowrie police on charges of attacking Deepak Bansilal Lodhi, owner of a cable network in Remtekdi area, and his friend Dinesh K Telkar.Inspector in-charge of Wanowrie police station Dinkar Pawar said Telkar and Lodhi were riding a motorbike near Empress Garden on Thursday when Hiranwar and Sadavarte intercepted them and demanded that Lodhi wind up operations in the Ramtekdi area.Pawar said that in the ensuing scuffle, Hiranwar and Sadavarte stabbed Telkar and fled. They were arrested by the Wanowrie police on Friday afternoon on the basis of a First Information Report (FIR) lodged with them by Telkar. They were produced before a Judicial Magistrate (First Class) on Saturday and remanded to police custody for two days.Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Makrand Ranade said preliminary investigations have revealed that Hiranwar and Sadavarte are associated with a cable network owner who is a relative of underworld don Arun Gawli. He said the Crime Branch sleuths are investigating the suspected involvement of Gawli gang members in the incident. According to police officials, Hiranwar and Sadavarte are distributors of Gawli Vision Cable Network which has over 150 connections in Yerawada, Hadapsar, Wanowrie and Solapur Bazar areas.
