It seems dissidence within the Gujarat unit of the BJP is here to stay for a while now. In a farmers’ rally held here and attended by more than 6,000 people, mostly from the Patidar community, rebel leaders carried out a scathing attack on Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The common message was “to defeat the BJP and Modi in the forthcoming Assembly elections”.“Modi is a history-sheeter. He doesn’t know that 50 more MLAs are prepared to revolt against him. We will not spare him,” said Somabhai Patel, BJP MP from Surendranagar and a Koli leader. Somabhai said the state’s law and order situation was deteriorating and 96 days after the Junagadh rape-and-murder incident, the accused are still at large. “Modi has no right to remain in power.. He has made Rs 500 crore from the Sujalam Sufalam scheme,” he said.Suspended BJP MLA Bavku Undhad alleged former Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel, VHP’s Pravin Togadia and he had constantly been targeted by Modi.“It is Hitler’s government. Modi is misusing the entire government machinery,” said Dhiru Gajera, another suspended MLA.Suspended MLA Gordhan Zadaphia too said the state was heading for a change. “We have chosen not to become Modi’s pet animals but to live as lions. Modi has murdered democracy,” he said.
