Profiting from policing
Los Angeles: The commission that oversees the Los Angeles police DEPARTMENT believes it has found a way to make money from one of the country8217;s best-known police forces. The city8217;s police commission is planning to license the department8217;s logo to Hollywood and clothing manufacturers by next year, hoping to generate royalty revenue. Dean Hansell, a member of the commission, said that clothing and memorabilia manufacturers would need a license from the department to use 8220;LAPD8221; and would be charged a portion of the profits from sales of suchitems.
