Every summer Irene takes a break from her regular job at the La Republica, in Rome where she works as a film critic. During summer, Irene follows the voice of her heart. This allows her not only to explore different places, but also to go ahead and write the kind of stories she otherwise does not get time to do.
8220;During the year there is never any time to explore the world, except for daily events8221;, says Irene. As a journalist and correspondent she has great versatility in fields of art and literature. 8220;British and American literature was my exclusive field of study. And parallel to this came cinema, because I have also been married to an actor8221;, says Irene.
And what did she think of Chandigarh? 8220;Before coming here I thought I was going to find a city which would be very formal. But on the contrary. I found the city very pleasant, beautiful, elegant and clean8221;. 8220;The quantity of the green is amazing and pleasant to the eye. It is truly an amazing sight to see these wonderful warriors with their beautiful turbans in incredible colors, running on the scooters8221; says Irene.
Irene compares Nek Chand8217;s Rock garden with the Parkoguell in Barcelona, by the French American artist, Niki de St Phalle. The park is a lot like the Rock Garden though there are more architectural creations there than sculptures. I came across a couple of lines of warriors, dolls and monkeys in the Rock Garden. I was mesmerized to see this fantastic place.8221;
Not very familiar with the mainstream Indian cinema, Irene does know a little about parallel cinema. 8220;Indian films are not so popularly distributed in Italy. The personalities that I am familiar with are Satyajit Ray, Mira Nair, Mrinal Sen, and now Shekhar Kappor. I watched Train to Pakistan in Korea. I recently saw Fire and enjoyed it. Irene has gone back to Italy full of images and plenty of ideas and stories she would like to develop further.
