Bama Academy of Fine Arts celebrates ten years in colours

The more the merrier they say…since it means more voices, varied perspectives and unlimited expressions. When it’s about art, each artist brings his share of colours. The students of Bama Academy of Fine Art, Panchkula, bring their annual painting exhibition which is also the academy’s tenth. Around 57 artists from Chandigarh, Panchkula, Mohali and surrounding regions are participating in this exhibition. All the artists belong to different age brackets and walks of life. An outcome of a workshop held prior to the exhibition, their are plethora of subjects, themes, textures et al on display.

Nature seems to be the prime inspiration for most since many frames find foliage and flowers at their centre and background. A labourer finds rest under a tree after a hard day’s work. Number of frames capture the many hues that flora and foliage displays, some portray chrysalis, majestic nature, another artist finds nature beautiful in black. Elegance of a tree finds its meaning in the interplay between light and shadows. Personification of nature becomes its beauty as the thorns of roses become a beautiful crown.Tall trees become silent partners to woman plucking flowers. Different vases hold different flowers in myriad hues. Spirituality finds its place next, with soundless rocks chanting their own mantra, two ladies play at a bright amavasya, while another frame searches for peace amidst the modern time. A lone monk travels in a divine zone. Artists also explore their own creative zones through these canvases- be it a cozy corner or a turning point, metamorphosis or solace, a search of identity or a designer’s den. The artists do have miles to go, but their strokes do make beautiful foundations.

On at Government Museum and Art Gallery- Sector 10, Chandigarh, till December 7.
