LONDON, May 16: Arsenal won the English League and Cup double for the second time in their history with a well-deserved and comfortable 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

Goals from Dutchman Marc Overmars (24th minute) and Nicolas Anelka (69th minute) gave the champions a thoroughly-merited victory.

This was their third double in England in the last five seasons following Manchester United in 1994 as the only club to do the double twice. Newcastle were largely outplayed and outrun by an Arsenal.
