Earthrace: A power boat from New Zealand is on a global race to set a new world record in circumnavigation using only renewable fuels. With a seven-member crew, the boat set off on March 10 from Barbados. It has so far covered 14,000 nautical miles.

At Kochi: The boat arrived at the Mattancherry wharf near here on Sunday morning. The vessel, which suffered an engine damage on its way from Singapore, will be repaired here. The boat will set off again on Monday. The next fueling will be at Salalah in Oman.

Captainspeak: 8220;We are hopeful of achieving our target of breaking the existing record set by British boat Cable and Wireless in 1998, covering 24,500 nautical mile journey in 75 days,8221; said Pete Bethune, captain of Earthrace. Five unsuccessful attempts have been made since 1998 to break the existing record.
