A special court of inquiry (COI) of the Army has indicted five officers of Bathinda cantonment for bunglings in the purchase of anti-termite pesticides, causing loss of lakhs of rupees to the Army.
According to sources, the COI, has in its report to the Army Headquarters recommended strict disciplinary action against the indicted officers for their role in the scam.
The Army Headquarters will now submit its action taken report to the Ministry of Defence for further action. This is perhaps for the first time that senior officers of the ranks of Colonel and Major have been indicted in a corruption case. They have been indicted for buying anti-termite medicines at a rate about four times higher than the market rate.Sources say the indicted officers include Col P.K. Jhamb, Col S.C. Chawla, Lt Col M.S. Bisht, Major S. Patni and Major A. Sharma.
