
CHANDIGARH, MARCH 23: The Environment Society of India has presented books and posters worth Rs 25,000 to the Army for distributing it to schools and panchayats enroute a mixed adventure safari in the Garhwals.
President of the society, S.K. Sharma said here today that the organisation has also donated Rs 5,000 for the expedition, being undertaken by the Golden Key Division.
The 30-member expedition will traverse about 500 kilometers in the interior Garhwals through the Yamuna Valley, Bhagirathi Valley linking up with the Ganga Valley, covering 300 kilometers on motorcycles in the first stage.
The second stage will involve negotiating river rapids along Devprayag, Khudiyala, Shivpuri and Rishikesh, while the final stage involves covering the remaining 110 kilometers to the Doon valley on bicycles.
Free medical camps, eco-awareness programmes and contact with ex-servicemen will be undertaken during the expedition, which was flagged-off from Dehradun yesterday.
