The BJP on Thursday accused two senior members of the Union Cabinet of flouting norms of collective responsibility by speaking in different voices on the issue of ban on SIMI.
8220;Lalu Prasad and Ram Vilas Paswan are not independent of the Cabinet,8221; BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters.
8220;They are not independent cabinet ministers. While the Supreme Court and some ministers have said that SIMI should be banned, they Prasad and Paswan are advocating that it should not be.8221;
Javadekar said this is against the principles of collective responsibility. 8220;Are they freelance ministers? They are speaking against the government?8221;
A high court tribunal headed by Justice Geeta Mittal had lifted the ban on SIMI on Tuesday, citing lack of evidence against it.
However, the Supreme Court upheld the ban.
Though the UPA government said the ban should continue, Prasad and Paswan had demanded lifting of the ban.
8220;When cabinet ministers speak in this manner, terrorism is strengthened,8221; said Javadekar.8221;
