CHANDIGARH, July 22: Aptech Computer Education affiliated to Manipal Academy of Higher Education will offer courses leading to the Bachelors Degree in Information Technology BIT from this session.

Announcing the tie-up here this evening, MAHE Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Janardhan Jha said that the IT degree programme through Aptech Computer Education will be the first course of its kind in the country.

Students who have completed Plus Two or graduation are eligible for the three-year course, which will cost Rs 30,000. Instruction is entirely through practical classes with no formal lectures.

Aptech faculty will guide the students and MAHE will provide books and other study material. Aptech will also provide infrastructure, administrative set-up, services and faculty.

Aptech Regional Head, North, Sanjay Chandhoke, claimed that about 1,500 students have already registered for the course and another 3,500 from northern India are expected. quot;In Punjab we have 46 centres, in Haryana 26 and in Himachal 12. No one will have to travel more than 40 km for the course,quot; he said.

Aptech Computer Education is a division of the global technological company, Aptech, which has 1,200 centres in 20 countries.
