HYDERABAD, JAN 21: The 16-day-old indefinite strike by junior doctors in the State demanding higher stipend was called off late Thursday night following an assurance by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu that he would consider their demand Friday.

Junior Doctors Association president G S Gnaneshwar told UNI Friday morning that representatives of the striking doctors had met Naidu at the NTR Trust Building soon after the politburo meeting of the party last night.

Naidu had urged them to first call off their strike as it was not 8220;his habit8221; to talk to striking people, adding he was prepared to give their representatives time on Friday to consider their demands after studying the financial implications.

Gnaneshwar said following the assurance given by the Chief Minister, the doctors decided to call off their stir at 11 pm.

Doctors who were attending emergency duties would resume duty from Friday, while the others would join duty Saturday, he added.
