KUALA LUMPUR, April 18: National champion Anupama Gokhale lost a winning game to IWM Mekhri Ovezova of Turkmenistan while IWM Bhagyashree Thipsay beat unrated Lim Jeannie of Malaysia in the eighth round of the Asian Women’s Chess Championship here today.

Top seed Xu Yuhua (6.5) of China continued to lead the table, holding Maria Sulistya (5) of Indonesia to a draw.

In a queen’s gambit accepted game, Gokhale sacrificed a pawn for attack but missed a simple two-move win to eventually lose after 38 moves.
