Ecuador reached the second round of the World Cup for the first time after beating Costa Rica 3-0 Thursday.

Carlos Tenorio and Agustin Delgado each scored their second goals of the tournament to go through alongside host Germany. Ivan Kaviedes added a third goal in injury time.

Costa Rica and Poland are the first teams to be eliminated from the 32-nation field.

8220;We made history and that8217;s what we came here to do,8221; Ecuador coach Luis Fernando Suarez. 8220;We achieved our first goal, but it won8217;t be the only one.8221; Ecuador needs only a draw against Germany in its final match of the first round to claim first place in Group A.

Tenorio scored in the eighth minute and Delgado in the 54th. Kaviedes, who replaced Tenorio at the start of the second half, added the last goal in the second minute of injury time from six yards.
