Andhra Pradesh Advocate General D Sudershan Reddy has resigned after failing to appear before a High Court hearing. The court was to hear a writ petition seeking stay on the submission of interim report by the state Backward Class Commission yesterday, official sources said.

Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has taken serious note of the Advocate General8217;s absence. Hearing the writ petitions filed by some non-Muslim organisations opposing the reservations to minorities in educational institutions, the single-judge bench of Justice V Eshwaraiah had asked the Commission to furnish detailed information sought by the petitioners.

Stating that they were opposing such move by the government, the petitioners had contended that they asked the Commission whether it had gathered any information on the status of the Muslims and if so, furnish the information, so they could contest its veracity.

Later, when Reddy met the Chief Minister, the latter expressed his annoyance over the failure of the Advocate General to perceive the matter, sources added.
