AHMEDNAGAR, Dec 27: The geographical background, sound climatic conditions and the mountainous surroundings make Ahmednagar one of the best suited sites for paragliding in the country. The Aero-Nodal Centre ANC at MIRC is one of its kind in the country.

The ANC has basic paragliders along with the intermediate, advanced and motorised versions. Under the guidance of Brig K Srinivasan, Commandant, MIRC, the sport has flourished into an active aero-nodal centre. Major LP Singh, who has been participating in various paragliding competitions throughout the country, is one of the best trained officers in paragliding and an expert.

Lance Naik Bhanwar Lal had participated in a backpack paramotor competition at Agra and in an air show during October this year held at New Delhi. Recently, at a function of Kasam Parade8217; organised at MIRC on October 31, the audience was treated to the skills of Lance Naik Raju Prasad in a paraplane here.At present, the ANC is involved in training cadets from the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, in basic paragliding. An intricate knowledge of weather conditions, wind parameters, instantaneous study of the geographical conditions and sound map reading is required for a paragliding pilot. Above all, man would never have found the sky within his reach, but for paragliding.
