Sangli, May 30: The hearing of the Amruta Deshpande murder case was adjourned till June 20 on Special Public Prosecutor Ujwal Nikam8217;s request who is leaving for London in connection with the extradition of music director Nadeem. On Saturday, police sub-inspector Natha Yeole and police chowkie in-charge Dilip Mandale were examined.

They said that Tejubhai Lalwani, an eye-witness to the murder, had telephoned them to inform that two youths had stabbed a girl near the Shastri Chowk. The information was passed on to police inspector Pradip Bhosale, the two said, adding that Bhosale had told them that he was immediately rushing to the site of the incident. They made it clear that after that, they had not asked any police constables to go to the site.

They said that after the complaint of Amruta8217;s father, Dr. Ravikant Deshpande, they had recorded an offence under the Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, however at that time, Section 34 was not made applicable. The report of the incident was sent to the magistrate concerned. Lalwani had stated that the murder site was on the northern side of the garden but they said that they could not tell whether the site was actually on the southern side of the garden.

Yeole said that the offence was registered on the same day when Dr. Deshpande lodged the complaint. He refuted the charge that the offence was recorded a few days after the complaint was lodged.
