Amod limps back to normal

Talking to Express Newsline over the phone from Amod, Special Inspector General of Police Vadodara range D D Tuteja said the authorities were conducting two inquiries. Assistant collector Rajiv Topnoe is inquiring into the mob firing on the police and Deputy Superintendent of Police B K Gamit is inquiring into the killing of a tribal during communal clashes and the killing of another person in police firing in which DySP D K Bawa has been accused and other related incidents.

Tuteja said Congress leader Iqbal Kakuji, who has been booked under Section 307 of IPC alongwith two others for their alleged assault on one Paresh Mehta, was still eluding the police. 8220;The police raided several places in order to arrest him, but in vain8221;, he stated.

Tuteja also denied the charge that police directly aimed at the crowd or at any particular individual during firing in self-defence which led to the killing of one person. He said that assistance of forensic experts had been sought in the investigation of the police firing.

Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Amar Singh Chaudhary and Gujarat PCC chief C D Patel visited the town on Saturday, met family members of the deceased and called on other victims. They also called on district and police officials to apprise themselves of the latest situation.

Several BJP leaders from Surat and Anand district, including legislators, visited the town and met district officials.
