
VADODARA, April 14: Even as Ambedkar Jayanti was celebrated in various parts of the city on Wednesday, followers of Ambedkar here have said that though Rs 2.5 lakhs have been spent on it, the B R Ambedkar Bhavan at R C Dutt Road is nowhere near complete.
One of the members, Raman Parmar, claimed that as per the estimates of the architect, the building is expected to cost an amount of Rs 35 lakhs. The members have said that such a big amount could not be used without the opinion of other experts.
The members said that Ambedkar was associated with the city during the reign of Sayajirao-III. He worked with Sayajirao for the promotion of higher education and upliftment of the weaker sections of society. The members said that given Ambedkars8217; affiliation with the city the administration should speed up the work. They added that this building would not only be a mark of respect to Ambedkar but would also house activities related to womens8217; health and education.
Earlier in the day Mayor Bharti Vyas garlanded the statue of Ambedkar near GEB circle. Members of the SC/ST cell of the IPCL also organised several programmes to mark the day.
