VADODARA, Feb 4: The Standing Committee of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation on Thursday unanimously rejected Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria8217;s proposal to double the fine levied from cattle-owners for releasing impounded stray cattle.
While Aloria had suggested that the fine be raised from Rs 25 to Rs 50, the Committee members have decided against the hike in view of the budget proposal to set up a gaushala on the city outskirts to eliminate the menace of stray cattle in the city.
A Committee member, asking anonymity, told Express Newsline, 8220;We did not think it would serve any purpose to displease the cattle-owners for a period of three months during which the gaushala should be a reality8221;. Asked what the committee proposed to do if the proposal for the gaushala did not take shape in the given period, he replied, 8220;We8217;ll think about something to deal with this problem if nothing happens in these three months8221;.
The Committee has also postponed its decision on the creation of posts of Deputy Municipal Commissioners to run the administration in the civic body8217;s four zones. According to civic sources, the decision on the proposal is likely to be kept pending till Aloria8217;s return from his visit to Honolulu.
The sources added that while DyMCs H S Patel and I B Peerzada have already been named for two posts, both the technical staff and officials belonging to the scheduled castes/scheduled tribes SC/ST candidates were vying for the remaining two posts. The names of the most likely candidates to the posts doing the rounds at the civic body, however, are that of Assistant Municipal Commissioner Revenue R P Yagnik and Assistant Municipal Commissioner PP M P Sutaria.
Meanwhile, the Committee today approved a proposal to give part land and part money for the relocation of the Udipi Restaurant and Arun Autogarage, currently occupying 132 foot area of the Fatehgunj Ring Road. The VMC will allot 75 per cent of the plot reclaimed while reimbursing 25 per cent by paying Rs 1,200 per square metre. The restaurant and the garage are being shifted in view of the plan to widen the Ring Road.
