NEW DELHI, JANUARY 20: He says AIDS is incurable?8221; asks Delhi8217;s Social Welfare Minister, 8220;it can be cured by yoga and I will make the treatment available if occupants of shelter homes are tested positive,8221; says Minister Krishna Tirath. HIV tests are being conducted on inmates of shelter homes in Delhi. The Minister also says things like: 8220;If they have it they will be segregated and will continue to be supported by the Ministry.8221;

According to her, these tests do not violate the rights of the occupants of shelter homes in the Capital. Anyway, there won8217;t be many found to be having the disease.

8220;If anyone refuses to undergo the test it would not be forced on that person,8221; she said on Wednesday. She, however, said that all the children in the juvenile observation homes and shelters would undergo the tests. Asked if these would mark8217; an infected person, she said the tests were for the good of the children.

8220;I want steps to be taken in hospitals and all places to prevent infection. Syringes are being reused in many places,8221; she said. There are two observation hom-es for destitute boys and one for delinquents in the Capital. There is a home for rescued child prostitutes besides an observation home for girls. These children as well as kids in 10 other shelters for destitute children will be subjected to AIDS tests. Juvenile Welfare Board chairman B.S. Gehlaut when asked about the tests, said that children of prostitutes were staying with children from other backgrounds and the tests are needed for their protection.
