WASHINGTON, April 10: Andre Agassi and actress Brooke Shields are divorcing after two years of marriage, The New York Post reported today.

In a joint statement, Shields and Agassi announced the split, but said they still have “the utmost love and respect for each other and remain the best of friends”.

The pressures of competing careers and Agassi’s absences on the tennis circuit were to blame for the split, The Post said.

In an interview with the paper, a year after the wedding, Shields complained she and her husband had never been together for more than three weeks at a time.

Agassi, 28, is based in Las Vegas, while Shields, 33, pursues her acting career in Los Angeles, starring in the NBC sitcom Suddenly Susan.

“The highs are extremely high. The lows are very low,” the daily quoted Shields as saying about her marriage.

More recently, Shields was reported to be pressuring Agassi to retire from tennis so they could start a family, the daily said.
