After her support base in the state Assembly, it’s Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati’s official residence that’s expanding.
A bungalow right behind her Mall Avenue residence and earlier occupied by Samajwadi MP Beni Prasad Varma has been vacated, demolished and reconstructed to merge it with the official CM residence.
So Mayawati’s residence is now double the original size and the price that the government has had to shell out for it was Rs 61.73 lakh for reconstruction and furnishing. The BSP has also got a sprawling new office on Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg which is not far from the CM residence.
The new BSP office took shape following demolition of two bungalows — one housing former minister Laxmi Raman Acharya and the other was the Rashtriya Janata Dal office — and was constructed within five months at an initial cost of Rs 1.05 crore.
An adjoining private bungalow has also been vacated after the district administration found some dues pending against the owners and promptly auctioned the property to a BSP office-bearer.
