
The Chandigarh Administration has set fresh deadlines for the completion of road carpeting in the Industrial Area Phase-I. UT Home Secretary Ram Niwas inspected the ongoing road works on Monday and fixed December 31 as the deadline for completion of the carpeting on the road in front of Centra Mall, which is being widened for several weeks now.
The widening of Railway Station Road will be completed by April 30, 2009 and all the streetlight poles on the road will be shifted within 10 days, Ram Niwas told the officials.
During the visit, Ram Niwas also enquired about the work on the road between Modern Bakery and Junction 39.
He was apprised by the officials that the cost for the maintenance work has been estimated to Rs 7.5 crore.
Ram Niwas has directed the officials of the Engineering Electricity department for shifting 66 KV lines till March, so that the work of maintaining the roads can be completed soon. He also directed the Chief Architect to earmark the land for dealing with problems like waterlogging on the roads.
Niwas further reviewed the bumpy road between Hind Motors and Pasco Motors and directed the officials to complete the carpeting work up to March 31. He was apprised by the officials that the fancy lights have been installed on the roadsides and are in a working condition.
Niwas added that the estimate of Rs 55 lakh has already been finalised for the maintenance of internal roads in Industrial Area Phase I and the civic body has to deposit the money for the same. The civic officials were also directed to deposit the amount at the earliest, so that the maintenance work could be started.
