The youth who allegedly threw acid on Rangoli, sister of film actor Kangana Ranaut, in Dehradun on October 5, surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate First Class here today.

The judge ordered one-day judicial custody for accused Avinash Sharma. He will be produced before the Ilaka Magistrate of Dehradun tomorrow. The case against Avinash under Section 326 of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Dalpalanwala Police Station in Dehradun.

As per reports, 23-year-old Avinash hails from Dharamshera village under Ropri police station in Uttaranchal and was putting up at Solan. Son of a teacher, Dharampal Sharma, he is pursuing M.Sc in bio-informatics from a Solan college.

Surrendering in court, Avinash refuted all allegations levelled against him. The defence counsel, Advocate Terminder Singh, said Avinash did not surrender before the Dehradun police for he feared he might be harassed or eliminated.
