
Calcutta, July 12: Nearly 70 of 7.51 lakh people cast their votes in the election to 12 municipalities spread over nine West Bengal districts today amidst tight security.
State election commission sources said no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the districts, which went to the polls to form new boards in 247 wards.
After the panchayat polls, elections to the 12 civic bodies was of political significance, particularly for the Bharatiya Janata Party-Trinamool Congress alliance which failed to make a dent in the May rural elections.
