JALANDHAR, June 9: At least seven Akali councillors of the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation, including senior deputy mayor G. S. Narula are likely to submit their resignation in protest against the functioning of the Mayor.Corporation sources said that the seven councillors had earlier handed over their resignations to Urban Bodies Minister Sarup Singh who had reportedly told them to approach Badal.Badal is coming here tomorrow evening to inaugurate the state-level celebrations of the 600 th anniversary of Bhagat Kabir.Sources said the councillors said are peeved at the style of functioning of Mayor Suresh Sehgal. The relationship between the Shiromani Akali Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party has often been strained during the past one year of Sehgal's tenure. There are 10 Akali councillors in the 55-member Corporation house.Sources said that the Akali councillors would also raise the demand for removal of Sehgal as Mayor of the Corporation. Some Akali councillors, on the condition of anonymity, said they would accept any other BJP councillor as Mayor except Sehgal. The Akali councillors have also alleged that the Mayor had been indulging in favouritism and had failed to improve sanitary conditions in the City. They also alleged that no new work had been started in their wards in the past year which had led to resentment against them in their wards.Sources said efforts were on to persuade other three Akali councillors also to fall in line with their demand.Narula, when contacted by ENS, did not confirm or deny the proposal to hand over resignation to the CM.
