MOGA, Oct 29: The district police today claimed to have achieved a breakthrough in the Karamjit Singh Manchanda murder case by nabbing four accused, and recovering from them the jeep and weapons used in the crime.

Senior Superintendent of Police SSP S. S. Chohan told reporters here that a police naka party, on a tip-off, intercepted a jeep coming from the local New Grain Market last evening. On interrogation, all the four persons 8212; identified as Gurdeep Singh alias Deepa, Gurmeet Singh alias Kala, Narinderpal Singh and Rajinderpal Singh driver 8212; confessed that they had murdered the drug trafficker-business magnate earlier this month. After committing the murder, they had managed to escape.

Besides the jeep, three .12 bore double-barrel guns were also recovered from them, the SSP added.

Running a transport company in the town, with alleged accessibility to senior politicians, Manchanda had a criminal track record which included 20 cases of murder, arms acquisition and narcotics smuggling. He was shot dead on the night of October 9 while returning to his house.

8220;The accused formed three parties one stayed in the vehicle and the other two sprayed bullets from the front and back side, and Manchanda died on the spot,8221; Chohan said.

According to an FIR lodged by the deceased8217;s wife, six persons were involved in the murder. However, four of them were later learnt to have been wrongly included. 8220;We will get them discharged after the completion of the probe,8221; the SSP said.

The police will soon arrest the remaining two accused, he added.
