3 jailed for possessing poppy

Special Judge-cum-Additional Session Judge ASJ Ashok Kumar today sentenced three persons to 14 years of imprisonment for possessing poppy husk .

The judge also ordered the accused 8212; Dilbagh Singh alias of Rakba village, Chhinder Singh alias Peter of Jalandhar and Ajmair Singh alias Ghola of Dullaian village in Ludhiana district 8212; to pay Rs 2.50 lakh each as fine. In the case of a default in payment of ine, they will have to further undergo imprisonment for two years.

The ASJ held that prosecution had successfully proved with convincing evidence that poppy husk was indeed recovered from the accused even as he turned down the plea for leniency raised by the accused.

An FIR was lodged against the accused on February 12, 2006 under Section 15 of the NDPS Act at Dehlon PS.
