SONEPAT, Aug 9: At least 12 labourers were killed on the spot when a speeding truck ran over them on the GT Road near Bhigan village, about 10 km from here, last night, police said today.They were asleep on a divider of the national highway in front of a Pikri Rice Mill situated opposite the village.Official sources said here today that the seriously injured had been referred to the Rohtak Medical College hospital, while the remaining three injured admitted to the Civil Hospital at Sonepat.The truck driver, however, managed to escape along with the vehicle and police has registered a case against him on the charge of rash and negligent driving and causing the death of the victims.On receipt of information, senior officers of the district administration arrived on the spot and assured the family members of the victims that the culprit would be arrested soon.The list of dead: Arjun Bhemi of Khagria (Bihar), Nopalu, Najbur, Chhaipur, Majnu, Rijaa Jal of South Dinajpur (West Bengal), Ataul, Sajat, Koli Mal, Abdul Samadh of North Dinajpur (West Bengal).Those injured are: Suresh Abhi of Kharia (Bihar), Nazrul Sultan, Azad of North Dinajpur (West Bengal); and Ram Ditta of Samstipur (Bihar).
