Lucky Ali reveals the reasons behind his decision to quit the lucrative Bollywood music industry. (file)Lucky Ali, who celebrated his 65th birthday on September 19, has had an unconventional career in the Indian music industry. Unlike many of his peers, he has largely avoided the lucrative world of film music. In a country where film music reigns supreme, Lucky’s decision to quit the industry at the peak of his fame was a significant shock.
In a 2017 interview with Pollywood Box Office, Lucky explained his reasons for leaving Bollywood. “Is jagah mein badtameezi bahut hai. (This place has a lot of disrespect). Bollywood has changed,” he said.
Lucky Ali also criticised the industry’s lack of respect and the negative influence of contemporary films. “This generation’s movies are leaving a bad impact on society,” he said. “People are getting violent because they are inspired by what is being showcased on screen.”
According to Dr Madhur Rathi, Consultant – Psychiatrist, Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital, Noida Extension, putting yourself first is essential, especially when feeling disrespected in the workplace, as it directly relates to maintaining mental health.

“Disrespect can lead to feelings of worthlessness and anxiety, which can, in turn, affect overall health and well-being. Prioritising self-care allows individuals to reclaim their sense of value and confidence, enabling them to address the situation constructively,” Dr Rathi explained in an interaction with indianexpress.com.
At a time when debate about toxic work culture is at the fore as EY employee Anna Perayil allegedly lost her life to it, it is imperative you put yourself and your self-respect first.
Ignoring disrespect can lead to chronic stress, which may result in burnout, diminished job performance, and long-term health issues, Dr Rathi said. By establishing boundaries and advocating for oneself, individuals foster a healthier work environment and protect their mental and emotional health, ultimately contributing to greater life satisfaction.
Born to the legendary actor-filmmaker Mehmood, Lucky Ali made a relatively late debut in the Indian music scene. His debut album, “Sunoh,” was released in 1996 when he was 37 years old. He eventually gained widespread recognition with hit tracks in the 2000 film “Kaho Na… Pyaar Hai.” While he also ventured into acting, Lucky gradually distanced himself from Bollywood after the release of “Tamasha” in 2015.
