‘Woh misunderstanding mere side se hui thi..’: Salman Khan puts an end to 10-year long feud with Arijit Singh; how to navigate conflict at work

Sharing a heartfelt public apology note back in 2016, Singh had said: "I never insulted you… I tried so many times to apologize. Please don’t remove the song I sang for Sultan. Let me retire with that song in my library."

The decade-long rift between Salman Khan and Arijit Singh has finally ended. On Bigg Boss 19 Weekend Ka Vaar, Khan finally broke his silence and called Arijit a “good friend,” confirming they are now on good terms and open to collaborating for work.

The feud began in 2014 during an award show when Salman jokingly asked Arijit, “So gaye the? (Did you fall asleep?)” Arijit replied, “Aap logon ne sula diya yaar (You guys put me to bed),” which was taken the wrong way. This led to tension and rumours that led to Arijit’s songs being removed from Salman’s films, despite the singer’s repeated apologies. In May 2016, Arijit Singh posted a public apology to Salman Khan on Facebook, pleading with him to keep his version of the song Jag Ghoomeya in the film Sultan.

Sharing a heartfelt public apology note, Singh had said: “I never insulted you… I tried so many times to apologize. Please don’t remove the song I sang for Sultan. Let me retire with that song in my library.” He later deleted the post but eventually had his song included in Sultan.

After almost a decade, Khan publicly put the fight to rest by admitting that he and Singh are now very good friends and that the misunderstanding was on his part. During the weekend special episode of his reality show, he said: “Arijit aur main bahut acche dost hain. Woh misunderstanding mere side se hui thi. Uske baad usne mere liye gaane bhi kiye — Tiger 3 mein bhi aur ab Galwan ke liye bhi kar raha hai.” (Arijit and I are very good friends. The misunderstanding happened from my side. He has sung for me in Tiger 3 and is also doing a song for Galwan.)

Resolving misunderstandings at work

Workplace conflicts can be resolved amicably and professionally by addressing issues early, before they fester or turn into resentment.

According to Deepti Chandy, Therapist and COO, Anna Chandy & Associates, as soon as something begins to bother you, try to initiate a calm and constructive conversation. Speak directly with the person involved, or if that feels difficult, approach your immediate or reporting manager for guidance. And depending on the situation, it may also be appropriate to escalate the matter to a skip-level manager.

Many organisations today provide formal grievance mechanisms or HR-led processes that can help mediate such situations. “Sometimes, even discussing it with a trusted colleague can offer perspective and help you approach the issue more objectively,” she said.

Avoid this mistake

Chandy added that a common mistake employees make is letting resentment build up or slipping into a victim mindset. “Avoid gossiping, backbiting, or forming groups against someone — these behaviours only deepen divisions and make resolution harder. Instead, use ‘I’ statements to express how you feel (for example, ‘I felt unheard during the discussion’), and remain open to understanding the other person’s perspective,” she elaborated, adding that this helps keep conversations constructive and solution-focused rather than accusatory.

Unresolved conflicts not only strain relationships but also take a toll on one’s mental health. They can lead to stress, anxiety, or emotional exhaustion, affecting concentration, motivation, and overall job satisfaction. Addressing concerns promptly helps prevent this build-up and contributes to a healthier, more psychologically safe work environment.
