Akshay Kumar has, on multiple occasions, spoken about his diet and leading a disciplined life. In one such conversation with Galatta Plus in 2024, he detailed how he works for eight hours, giving his 100 percent. “I work eight hours a day. I personally feel that you are in front of a camera, and it captures each and every pore, each and every emotion. After 8 hours, the body gets tired. There are 24 hours. You need eight hours of sleep. I lead a very disciplined life. Your body requires eight hours of sleep. You need two hours to eat. You need two hours of workout. You need a few hours to spend with your family. So how much is actually left? Once I’m on set, I just want to be there till the director says pack up, unless I want to go to the washroom,” the Hera Pheri actor said.
Taking a cue from the 58-year-old’s admission, let’s understand how leading a disciplined life helps when it comes to longevity.
Living a disciplined life is about so much more than rules; it’s about steady, intentional choices, said Kanikka Malhotra, consultant dietitian and diabetes educator.
“The science is clear: When routines centre around good food, regular movement, sleep, and mindful habits, the body and mind become resilient,” said Malhotra.
Each time a meal is prepped instead of skipped, or an evening walk replaces screen time, the body’s systems “align,” which reduces inflammation, protects the heart, and keeps the brain sharp.
Real-life discipline isn’t about perfection.
Malhotra elucidated that it’s about those small, repeatable acts: getting up a bit earlier, sticking to appointments, managing stress before it builds.
“Over months and years, these build confidence and self-control—not only lowering the risk of chronic illness or memory loss but helping life feel less chaotic and more rewarding,” said Malhotra.
In essence, longevity isn’t a gift—it’s crafted by daily habits. “Discipline becomes the silent architect of a healthy, purposeful, and fulfilling life, nudging us toward our best possible future, one consistent step at a time,” said Malhotra.
