In a world captivated by the pursuit of eternal youth, the concept of ageing has become more than a biological inevitability; it’s a societal fixation. The relentless quest for the fountain of youth, encapsulated in the booming industry of anti-ageing products and treatments, reflects our collective obsession with defying the hands of time.
As we navigate a landscape saturated with serums, creams, and procedures promising to turn back the clock, this TikTok famous plastic surgeon has suggested a brand new way to preserve youthfulness.
Dr. Faryan Jalalabadi, a prominent plastic surgeon based in Beverly Hills, has been captivating TikTok enthusiasts with a repertoire of hacks and tips aimed at slowing down the natural ageing process. One of his notable recommendations, shared in a viral video garnering 1.1 million views, advocates for the daily use of dry saunas as a key strategy. Even Salma Hayek swears by the ‘healing powers of a sauna.‘
In the video, Dr Jalalabadi asserts, “The sauna slows down the ageing process of the skin.” He expounds on the benefits, citing improvements in collagen and elastic production and the skin detoxification achieved through the sweating process.
The plastic surgeon also highlights the sauna’s positive impact on heart health, as well as its benefits for lung function and overall circulation to the skin. However, a note of caution accompanies his advice — he emphasises that moderation is key. A concise 15 to 20 minutes in the sauna is deemed sufficient for it to work its age-defying magic.
In Dr. Jalalabadi’s words, engaging in this practice daily transforms it into an anti-ageing ritual. He encourages his audience, saying, “So, get in the sauna every day, if you can.” This insightful tip provides a glimpse into the ever-evolving landscape of anti-aging practices, where innovative strategies intersect with age-old wellness traditions.
According to Dr Swapna Priya, consultant dermatologist, CARE Hospitals, Hyderabad, the heat in a sauna can enhance blood circulation, dilate pores, and increase sweat production, which might collectively contribute to healthier skin.
“Some experts suggest that these effects could potentially slow down the ageing process, but it’s important to note that more research is required to establish a definitive link between sauna use and anti-ageing effects,” Dr Priya noted.
Beyond potential skin benefits, saunas offer various other advantages though.
However, Dr Priya warned that individual responses to sauna use can vary, and it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare professional, especially for individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
